Rochester, NY native Greg Townson, an accomplished musician with more than 23 years of experience under his belt releases his new album Off and Running! on Hi-Tide Recordings. It’s a sparkling, throwback rock’n’roll album featuring classic songs like “Hello Stranger” and “The Locomotion” as well as some less familiar.
Off and Running! features a list of insanely talented musicians including members of Los Straitjackets (one of Greg’s many other musical endeavors), NRBQ & the JD McPherson Band.
The sound is like if Chuck Berry, Bryan Setzer, and Los Lobos all had a guitar baby. Ok, that’s a weird visual ; ), but it sounds great!
The highlights of the album boil down to three things:
- A solid rock’n’roll backing band. And I don’t mean “Foo Fighters” version of rock’n’roll – I’m talking old school 1950s classic.
- A confident, jamming lead guitar running the show.
- And great arrangements. I don’t tend to think of “arranging” in old school rock’n’roll, but the rythym section, guitar parts, and overall handling of the sections is tasteful and fun.
