There’s a lot to choose from when you’re cruising Instagram for inspiration. But if you love acoustic guitar, then these are ten accounts you should definitely follow.

StewMac (https://www.stewmac.com/) is an online shop for guitar building and repair stuff. They’ve got great instructional material if you’re looking to fix or modify your own guitar. They’re always so inspiring – they make you appreciate the artistry and hard work that goes into actually making a guitar.

“No-Messing Around Sanding Block” . In my spare time I’ve been building a custom-order, black walnut, set-neck guitar this summer. . Before fitting the neck I realized that the body was 1/32” too thick on the back side to be flush with the thickness of the neck heel where it joined the body. . So, I thickness-sanded the back side of the body on StewMac’s wide-belt sander. Since the body had already been shaped (rounded-overs on the edges, and the body cut on the face), it rocked slightly in the sander; this left a very slight (.002” deep) hollow in the back side from end to end. . 1) To remove the dip we used a 25 lb. granite surface plate faced with 220, then 320-grit gold Stikit sandpaper, sanding in line from end to end. . 2)Three 13” lengths covered most of the block’s width and wrapped over each end so as not to dig into the wood. . 3) Paul Lampley II, who has worked in my shop for 3 years doesn’t really need to use all his muscle to do the job (Paul is also a TSR and tech-adviser in the StewMac phone room). . 4) The block’s weight is the trick — it removes wood fast and evenly. Paul vacuums all the sawdust from both the wood and the sandpaper after each pass. That makes for an even cut and keeps the sandpaper from loading (which means we can save it for at least one more use the next time we need the block-sanding). . 5) Before switching to 320-grit, Paul dampens the wood with alcohol to raise the grain a little — this is a mild method of “raising the grain”, but without water. The alcohol dries very quickly — normally I use denatured alcohol (Behkol) rather than the more-expensive 190-proof Grain alcohol that I use for certain types of French Polishing. . The sandpapers are not worn out from the sanding, so I save them for the next job. The six lengths of paper cost me $4.62 and save me at least 30 minutes of hand-sanding with an average-sized wood sanding block.

8. Tommy Emmanuel

Tommy is arguably the best acoustic guitar player in the world (well, at least he’s been voted that several times in guitar player polls). He’s also one of the nicest and most personally inspirational players. He’s the kind of guy you want in your IG feed ; )

(He also does impromptu ‘live’ performances on Instagram stories that are awesome. One of the few times I’ll sit and stare at an Instagram story for 15 minutes straight!)

9. CandyRat Records

If you’re in to fingerstyle acoustic guitar, then you need to follow CandyRat Records. A lot of great modern acoustic fingerstyle guitar players are signed with CandyRat, so it’s a good way to keep up on new releases and videos.
